Train gets LOST for an hour after taking wrong turn in Yorkshire

Disbelieving passengers were left asking ‘how is this even possible? when their train got lost.
A south-bound train became stranded while travelling through Yorkshire after it took a wrong turn while on a diversion.

Passenger Jeni Harvey, tweeted photos of the stranded train on the line after being told by staff it had taken the wrong route.

The passenger, who boarded the long-distance express at York, tweeted: “Currently on a lost train somewhere near Pontefract.
“We’re stuck because the driver “went the wrong way.” Who knew this was even possible?!”
One passenger, who did not wish to be named, said today: “The announcements were quite clear that we’d ‘got lost!’”.
The CrossCountry Trains service from Newcastle to Reading was diverted on Friday afternoon due to an earlier incident in Doncaster, and ended up in the Pontefract area.
After Jeni tweeted about her lost train, Twitter user Ruth Adams replied: "I really did not know that trains could get lost!"

Ms Harvey tweeted back: "No! You wouldn't, would you?! But as hundreds of us unfortunately found yesterday, indeed they can...!"
It took the train about an hour to get back on the right track and it was eventually directed to Sheffield where the service was terminated.
The passenger added: “They were having to reroute the train anyway because there was a problem at Doncaster.
“But we were told that the train somehow took the wrong diversion route.
“Then we stopped south of Pontefract, near the big power station, for a long time. We were told that they were having to get clearance to find another route.”

She said the train ended up going “backwards” - heading north again - for a short time. They ended up travelling past the junction where the train had gone wrong to get on the correct track.
In the end passengers heading south had to get off in Sheffield and catch another train to Birmingham.
